Information in English

Eureka/Rebecca is a series of site-specific guided walking concerts that will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2025, along the nature trail in the ravine landscape near Gardermoen Airport. The concert follows Australian and British soldiers on their final journey, a journey that ended on May 10, 1945, when they, as part of the Allied liberation forces, crashed their plane, a Short Stirling LK147, just a few hundred meters from the runway.

The audience will experience the sequence of events leading to the crash chronologically – from the announcement of Norway's liberation to a memorial for the fallen. This is done through four distinct musical pieces that the audience follows while walking along an established nature trail in the ravines. The pieces will be performed by Jessheim Girls' Choir (conducted by Guro Lødemel), Sølvguttene (conducted by Fredrik Otterstad), Kammerkoret YMIR, and the youth choir VoiceOver (conducted by Frikk-Heide Steen). The musical pieces include historical material, national anthems, fictional and imaginary dialogues and monologues, as well as a funeral hymn. All music is composed and arranged by Fredrik Otterstad.

The project follows a thematic chronology that reflects the four parts of the hike: victory and liberation, where the announcement of liberation marks the beginning; followed by celebration and patriotism; then a communication system failure and a plane crash; before the final memorial for the fallen. The audience takes the same journey that these young men involuntarily made, walking down into the ravines, where they encounter a living storytelling experience through choral singing.

The work was developed by visual artist Johanne Laache in collaboration with composer and musician Fredrik Otterstad.

The hike

The hiking concerts take place along a nature trail in the ravine valley near Gardermoen Airport. The nature trail has been improved and well-prepared, but it is still a path that can be very narrow and steep at times.

The trail down and out of the ravines is approximately 3 kilometers long in total, so attendees must be able to walk this distance on uneven terrain to participate in the event.

Each hike lasts 1 to 1.5 hours from start to finish. As an audience member, you will be escorted down into the ravines and to each musical performance by guides from Ullensaker DNT. Each audience group is limited to 30 people, ensuring everyone has a good experience of the music. The hike down and up follows a schedule, and participants must keep pace with the group.

The bottom of the ravines, near the river Sogna, can be very muddy. Therefore, sturdy, solid footwear is recommended.

For a detailed description of the entire hike, see this article.

The final route down into and out of the ravines, with a map, will be provided later.
